RUSSELL W. RECCHION

Recchion is one of the most talented portrait painters working today in the west. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In addition, he studied portrait painting with the late Nelson Shanks and sculpture with Zenos Frudakis. Recchion has also painted extensively in England, Italy and Spain.

Recchion’s modern-classical style of painting is based on the academic representationalism of Renaissance painters, a time when portraiture was high art. The composition is refined and carefully detailed and the surface is built-up in layers with the image slowly coming into focus. An accomplished landscape and still life painter as well, Recchion is pleased to add background elements to a portrait commission.

The artist prefers to work from life, with about 6 sittings of approximately 2 hours, and will work paint a portrait from photos as well. Recchion works in his studio in Tucson, Arizona, where he lives, however, he is happy to travel to the subject. Recchion has produced numerous posthumous portraits exhibiting great vitality.

During the past 30+ years, Recchion has had numerous private and corporate commissions for executives, presidents, deans and philanthropists that are displayed in major businesses, universities and medical institutions.
