JOSEPH Q. DAILY
Philadelphia-born Joseph Q. Daily was fortunate to have been raised in a highly creative environment: his parents, Don and Renee Daily, were illustrators. He began his artistic training in high school, which laid a strong foundation for the future. Daily went on to study illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, but he soon found that portrait painting was his true calling.
Daily's fine eye and steady hand produce a beautiful, traditional contemporary portrait. Dewy skin, detailed hands and the softness of the fabric are evident on the canvas. The subject may be painted in an environment, drenched in light or alone standing in a single light. In some cases, the inclusion of a landscape or pet enhances the portrait and provides the observer with more information about the subject.
Daily currently lives and works in rural New York State. He makes the portrait process effortless for the sitter. The artist travels to the portrait subject, where he takes many photographs that are used as reference material. Once the painting’s composition is agreed upon, Daily retreats to the studio to paint. A final visit to the subject confirms details such as eye color and skin tone. The whole process can be completed in a few short months.
